Artists

Enormous thanks to Rench Audio and Gangstagrass for licensing music for the Coal Mine Wars in West Virginia 5 Things to Know Series. The members of Gangstagrass are from different parts of the United States, but music brought them together! Listen to their songs about strip mining and the Big Branch mine disaster on the coal mine and labor music videos page.

Partnership

This project is produced in partnership with the Battle of Blair Mountain Centennial, a series of events taking place in many communities across the state over multiple days. The centennial aims to commemorate the significance of the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921 and the rich history of the southern West Virginia coalfields. It is also a way to memorialize the brave men and women who fought for the civil rights and labor rights of miners and their families. Finally, the event is a celebration of the ideals of inclusiveness, diversity, and equity.
