Meet the Course Instructor

Melissa Olfert
Melissa Olfert, DrPH, MS, RD is an Assistant Professor in Human Nutrition and Foods in the Davis College of Agriculture at West Virginia University.  Dr. Olfert received her doctorate from Loma Linda University with emphasis in the preventive care of chronic disease as well as completing her registered dietitian course work and internship. Her masters in exercise physiology was earned from the University of Illinois.  Dr. Olfert has been in private practice for over a decade offering lifestyle behavioral services including alternative medicine approaches for athletes and other individuals.  Her specialty in sports nutrition counseling has included high performance enhancement of cardiovascular training and resistance prescriptive programs.  Dr. Olfert's research spans over prevention of chronic disease by using modalities in lifestyle behavior to promote optimal health through nutrition and exercise for the athlete and the amateur fitness enthusiast.
