When You Commit a Microaggression

If you’re trying to do this work, there will be times when you mess up and accidentally hurt someone. Someone sharing that with you is a communication gift. Take these opportunities as areas for growth instead of telling yourself “I made a mistake; I’m a terrible person.” We all make mistakes; we are human beings.

  • Acknowledge feelings and experiences of the other person and yourself
    • How the other person receives what you say matters!
    • Say “Thank you” not “you’re overreacting” or “I didn’t mean it that way”
