Domestic relations law (also sometimes referred to as family law) covers multiple interrelated subject areas including marriage, divorce, property settlements, spousal support, child support, child custody, visitation, and adoption. It is governed primarily by state laws which vary state by state.
This guide also identifies secondary sources including treatises, practice guides, and periodicals. Research using secondary sources is often a useful approach to understanding a legal topic, and a good way to begin your research on domestic relations law.
