MLA Citation Style Guide: 7th Edition

Film or Video Recording

General Rule:

Title of Film. Dir. Director's First Name Last Name. Distributor, Year. Format.

"Title of Episode."  Title of Series or Program. Distributor, Year. Format.

Example:

Plan 9 From Outer Space.  Dir. Edward D. Wood Jr.  Coporation of America, 1959. Film.

"Possessed Pepperpot." The Haunted Collector. Pilgrim Films & Television, 2012. DVD.


You can also add performers, screenwriters, or producers if you think that the information is relevant to the citation.

Example:

Plan 9 From Outer Space.  Dir. Edward D. Wood Jr.  Screenplay by Edward D. Wood Jr. Perf. Bela Lugosi, Tor Johnson,, and  Vampira.  Legend Films, 2012. DVD.

Television or Radio Broadcast

General Rule:

"Title of the Episode." Title of Series or Program.  Name of Network (if any). Call letters and city of local station (if any). Broadcast Date (day month year). Medium of Reception.

Example:

"Spooky Cemetary." Ghost Mine. SyFy. 14 February 2013. Television.

"Interview With John Waters." Fresh Air with Terry Gross. NPR.  14 March 2013. Radio.


Music Recording

General Rule:

Name of artist. "Title of Specific Song." (if needed). Title of Album or Larger Work.  Manufacturer, Year of Release. Medium.

Example:

Pet Shop Boys.  "New York City Boy."  Nightlife. Sire, 1999. CD.
