After you've found a book you would like to borrow from the library, you need to request it through ILLiad (interlibrary loan). It will be mailed to your home address at no cost and you'll be provided a postage-paid return label. For a tutorial on registering for registering for ILLiad and more information about how this service works, click on the Getting Materials tab.
Is there a limit to how many items I may request?
There is no limit to how many books may be requested each semester. However, only the first 10 books (WVU owned and ILL combined) will be sent to the patron at no charge.
How long will I be able to keep books I borrow?
Books that are borrowed from WVU's collection have the same loan period that on-campus users receive. Loan periods vary according to the status of the borrower, which library is loaning the book and what type of material is being loaned but most books have a semester-long loan. For complete information on borrowing policies, see the Borrowing Services.
Can I renew my books?
Yes. To renew books borrowed from WVU, follow the renewal instructions. Renewals for books that were borrowed through Interlibrary Loan may be requested by email to the ILL Department, but the lending institution must approve all renewals so the process can take longer and renewals are never guaranteed upon request.
What else do I need to know?
Materials that are non-circulating, such as reference materials or items from the West Virginia Collection, may not be checked out under this program. Currently, these services are only offered by the Downtown Campus, Evansdale and Health Sciences Libraries. Patrons are responsible for any overdue fines incurred. WVU items not returned within 31 day of the due date are assumed lost and a replacement bill will be issued. ILL fines are $1.00 per day per item. Make sure to factor mailing time when trying to return books by the due date. Information on library fines can be found here: https://library.wvu.edu/services/borrowing/guidelines
