It has served as a subliminal, and maybe even subversive, blueprint for children, especially young girls, @Anna Kodé says. To report this story, New York Times journalists visited Mattel in late May and spent more than 18 hours over two days arranging the Barbies in the Dreamhouses to create stop-motion animations. Some Dreamhouses took over an hour to set up; the longest shoot required moving Barbie 137 times.
