Books: challenged, banned, and burned

Researching and tracing trends and events

Every September Libraries across the United States come together to celebrate banned book week. This week highlights the books that have been subjected to censorship, banned, and potential banning at public, school, and academic libraries. The goal of Banned Book Week is to bring not just librarians, but library, users, educators, and more to support and celebrate the freedom of written expression.

This guide provides information on book challenges in West Virginia and across the United States, a brief history of book banning and censorship, and resources on how you can help support the freedom to read.
