Features demographic research mapping tools that allow for demographic data analysis from 1790 through present down to the zip code or a city block level. You will need to create an account with your WVU email address to use Social Explorer.

Access maps and demographic data

Click on Explore to see the full range of demographic and mapping data available in Social Explorer. The database also contains a collection of pre-built variable maps that you can explore.

Ways to explore demographic and mapping data

Social explorer provides several built-in tools to access, customize, visualize, and export its data sets.

Explore Maps

Build visualized maps based on demographic variables.

Tables

Build numeric and tabulated statistics tables that can be exported.

Demographic Profiles

View and export demographic profiles and variables on specific geographic regions.

Geodata

Download geodata for United States geographies from 1790 to 2019 in the form of shapefiles or other formats.

Export the map via sharing a link, save as an image, or add it to a project

Change variables and time range

Adjust the variable being viewed and date coverage. This box also allows you to change how the data is visualized and allows you to customize the map.
