Insurance Law Research Guide

undefined

Insurance is an area of law which is primarily governed by state law. According to the McCarran-Ferguson Act (15 United States Code § 1011), state law regulates business of insurance while federal law covers issues that may intersect with insurance including bankruptcy, securities regulation, antitrust and arbitration.

This guide also identifies secondary sources including treatises, practice guides, and periodicals. Research using secondary sources is often a useful approach to understanding a legal topic, and a good way to begin your research on insurance law.
