What is a Citation Manager?

Citation Manager Software helps you:

  • Collect, Organize, Cite, and Share your research sources (This is your personal database)
  • Automatically create citations using a variety of referencing styles
  • Effortlessly build bibliographies to properly cite the information that you use
  • Save and organize articles in PDF format, graphs, images, or other files for your research

The video below provides a broad overview of what a citation manager is and what features citation managers like Zotero, Mendeley, and EndNote have to offer. Use the links below the video to find out how to install, use, and personalize these citation managers.

Which one is right for you?

WVU supports two different citation managers:

Personally, I recommend Zotero. You can export a complete bibliography once you have gathered all your articles or create one while you are working on your project. There is also a Cite & Write feature available, which does exactly what it sounds like it does. This feature works in both Word and Google Docs. The best part is that even after you graduate you will have access to your Zotero materials.
