Cultural Property Journal Entry Requirements
Journal Entry (1 of 4). Address one of the following questions in your journal:
- Do you think that cultural awareness is an important part of personal growth? If so, identify two observations from your time in Geneva that relate to your personal growth.
- How can cultural awareness help you in the practice of law? Your journal entry must include at least two specific observations from your time in Geneva.
Journal Entry (2 of 4). Build on this exercise:
- In this exercise we discussed how cultures differ as to clothing, food, time, gifts, and socialization. Select one of these as a category and describe examples of your own culture with that category. Next note any differences you observe during your time in Geneva. Demonstrate your powers of observation at discerning cultural differences.
Journal Entry (3 of 4). Cultural scavenger hunt:
- Objective – engage with and identify culture.
- Your choice - take a walk, have a meal, visit a museum or cultural site. The goal is to engage with a new culture.
- In your journal identify (1) how your activity meets the definition of culture, (2) two observations about your experience engaging with culture, and (3) an observation as to how you were impacted by this experience.
Journal Entry (4 of 4). Your final CP journal entry is a reaction:
- React to one of the following prompts with at least one example.
- Is cultural appropriation ever acceptable?
- What is the equitable treatment of a BFP who purchases a looted cultural treasurer with no reason to be aware of the questionable provenance of the item.
