This webpage is intended as an informational guide for student workers (trainers, coaches, and tutors) assisting their peers in the Chambers College Business Communication Center, the BrickStreet Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, WVU's LaunchLab Applied Innovation Center, and other University centers that provide business coaching and planning services.
The purpose of this guide is to:
- identify the various service ("referral") points within the WVU Libraries
- briefly describe the functions and advantages (and limitations) of each service point
- summarize what the WVU Libraries can offer student-clients by way of research help
Refer the question not the person!
Anytime you get a question about research you are at all unsure about how to answer, refer the question to a librarian using the following procedure:

Hours: Jessica works Monday through Friday from 8AM until 4/5PM.
Need to Know: This is the best way to contact Jessica if you are working with a client who needs assistance locating sources or focusing their business plan! The average response time Monday through Friday is typically a few hours and 24 to 48 hours on the weekends. In the email message, make sure to introduce the client (cc the client!) and a brief description of their project and/ or the type of information they are looking for! The more details I have, the better I can assist!
In-person Drop-ins & Appointments (otherwise known as Research Consultations):
Hours: Drop-in whenever the Library is open! Scheduled appointment slots are available Monday through Friday from 8AM until 4PM and other times and locations as needed.
Need to Know: Students can drop-in and ask for assistance whenever the Libraries are open! HOWEVER we strongly encourage students with a business project to meet specifically with Jessica (and she is not always available when student drop-by unannounced). With that said, we strongly encourage appointments! Appointments should be booked at least 1 business day in advance. In-person consultations are held at the Downtown Campus Library and usually run 30 to 60 minutes in length.
Instant Message / Chat Services:
Hours: This service is staffed during Fall and Spring semesters by WVU Librarians and graduate student assistants Monday through Thursday from 9AM until midnight, Friday from 9AM to 7PM, and Sunday from 1PM to midnight.
Need to Know: If your client in a bind and needs immediate assistance outside of Jessica's working hours, this is the service to use. Note, the professionals staffing this service may not have expertise in business information, but they can still point you in the right direction!

Hours: Jessica works Monday through Friday from 8AM until 4/5PM, however she is regularly out of the office teaching classes and attending meetings. The Research Services Department general contact number is staffed Monday through Friday from 8AM to midnight.
Need to Know: If your client is in a bind and needs immediate assistance during business hours, call Jessica's direct line first. If the client needs immediate assistance outside of Jessica's working hours (i.e. non-business hours), contact the Research Services Department. Note, the professionals staffing this service may not have expertise in business information, but they can still point you in the right direction!
