- Microform is a general term for scaled-down reproductions of original documents. They are typically printed on cardboard or film and require specialized equipment to view or copy.
- The two most common types are microfiche (thin sheets containing multiple images per sheet) and microfilm (reels of film containing multiple images). The third form is microopaques (microcard and microprint) which are similar to microfiche, except on cardboard.
- All microform is available for in-library use only.
- Our microfiche and microcard collections are located on the 2nd floor of the Downtown Campus Library. Microfilms are housed in remote storage at our Depository and can generally be retrieved within 24-48 hours of request.
- The Downtown Campus Library acts as a Depository for State and Federal Government Documents, including those in microform format. These can be found near the general microform collection on the 2nd floor. For more information, visit the Government Documents Collection website or Ask a Librarian.
- Equipment for viewing microforms is located on the 2nd floor near Study Rooms 2042/2044. The YouTube videos "How to Use Microfilm" and "KU Libraries - Minolta Microform Reader" give general tutorials on how to use the types equipment we have.
