The materials highlighted in this guide highlight some of the many held by the WVRHC. It is important to note that the majority of the materials were collected by, and therefore reflect the perspective of, white settlers and residents of West Virginia and central Appalachia, rather than the perspectives of the Indigenous peoples of the region. Additionally, as these are historical records, the language used in the materials may be offensive and upsetting to users.
