ICPSR -Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research This link opens in a new window
ICPSR is the world's largest collection of digital social science data which can be used for secondary research, instructional activities, and to write articles, papers or theses - set up MyData account to begin. First-time users will be asked to create an ICPSR MyData account which must be done from an on-campus computer. Once the account is created, access is from anywhere. The account remains active for 6 months, after which time it must be reactivated from an on-campus computer.

Uniform Crime Reports
The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) from the FBI provide official crime counts for the United States. The UCR Program provides a nationwide view of crime based on the submission of statistics by city, county, state, tribal, university and college, and federal law enforcement agencies. Data are available on reported offenses and persons arrested from 1930 to the present.
National Archive of Criminal Justice Data: the Source for Crime and Justice Data
The NACJD specializes in quantitative analysis of crime and justice data and their site provides free access to hundreds of downloadable criminal justice data collections for research and instruction purposes. Bureau of Justice Statistics
Includes statistics on crimes by type (violent, property, identity theft, hate crime, etc.) or victim, corrections populations and facilities, and court systems as well as noncriminal aspects of the justice system.
