A quick guide to using APA citation style

Newspaper article

General Rule: 

Last-name, First-initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Newspaper, Pages.

Example: 

   Kronholz, J. (2002, May 2). Bibliography mess: The internet wreaks havoc with the form --- how do you cite a web page? that's a matter of debate; arguing over a period. Wall Street Journal, p. A.1.

Online Newspaper Article:

If the article was found online omit the page numbers and include “Retrieved from” followed by the web address of the newspaper's homepage

General Rule:

Last-name, First-initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Newspaper. Retrieved from http:XXXXX

Example:

   Kronholz, J. (2002, May 2 ). Bibliography mess: The internet wreaks havoc with the form --- how do you cite a web page? that's a matter of debate; arguing over a period. Wall Street Journal. Retrieved from http://online.wsj.com 

Magazine Article

General Rule:

Last-name, First-initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Magazine, Volume, Pages.

Example:

   Schick, K. (2011, November 4). Citation Obsession? Get Over It!. Chronicle Of Higher Education, 58(11), A96.

Online Magazine Article:

If the article was found online omit the volume and page numbers and include “Retrieved from” followed by the web address of the magazine’s homepage

General Rule:

Last-name, First-initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Magazine, Retrieved from http:XXXXX

Example:

   Schick, K. (2011, November 4). Citation Obsession? Get Over It!. Chronicle Of Higher Education. Retrieved from http://chronicle.com
