Overview of the policies and procedures for obtaining and keeping library materials

Fine Policy for Books

This fine policy covers most books owned by WVU Libraries

  • Users have 30 days past the due date to return or renew books.
  • On the 31st day, the item is treated as “Lost” and a bill, including the replacement cost + a non-refundable $10 processing fee, will be issued for them.

Blocked Library Accounts

If you have fines totalling $5.00 or more, your account will be blocked and you will be unable to check out books until it is cleared up.

Students with fines in excess of $5.00 will have their fine information sent to the Office of Student Accounts (OSA).  Students will need to go to that office to pay the fine.  Fines totalling less than $5.00 can be paid at the library.

Faculty pay fines at the Access Services desk, regardless of the amount.

The  WVU Libraries are not able to accept credit cards at this time.  Fines must be paid by cash or check.
