Access Services: Orientation for Faculty: Borrowing and Renewing

Nuts and bolts information on book borrowing, loan periods, fines, Interlibrary Loan, and E-ZBorrow. Also covers many other services handled at the Downtown Campus Library.

Checking out library books

Once you've located a book in the stacks, present your WVU ID card at the Access Services desk to check it out.

Faculty and graduate students may borrow up to 100 items at one time.

Proxy accounts:  Faculty may have graduate students and family members proxied to their account.  To set this up, the faculty member must come to the library with the proxy form.  Faculty may have more than one person proxied to their account.

Loan Periods and Renewals

Faculty. staff and graduate students receive semester loans for most books.  This means that books are due December 31, May 31 and August 31. 

Other loan periods:

  • Eliza's collection:            4 weeks
  • Play collection:                4 weeks
  • DVD/VHS:                       7 days
  • Multimedia equipment:     7 days
  • Reserve:                          2 hours
  • Health Sciences:             2 weeks
  • Law Library:                   3 weeks     


Renewing books

Library books may be renewed online though the MountainLynx catalog or in person. 

If a book is not renewed or returned for 30 days after the due date, the user will receive a replacement bill for the book. Once the book is returned or renewed, the bill will be cancelled.
