Art History Research: Online Archives

a guide to the Art History resources available at the WVU Libraries

Finding an Online Archival Collection

There is no single web portal for archival collections, but here are some useful places to search by topic.

What Are Primary Resources?

From the Library of Congress’s American Memory Learning Page:  “Primary sources are original items or records that have survived from the past, such as clothing, letters, photographs, and manuscripts.  They were part of a direct personal experience of a time or event.”

The UCLA Institute on Primary Resources has compiled a nice set of definitions.
